BANCROFT, July 9, 2023 - The Bancroft Flying Club's 36 Annual Fly-In Breakfast and Barbecue took flight on Sunday, July 9, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., leaving a lasting impression on aviation enthusiasts and community members alike. This highly anticipated event, held at the Bancroft Community Airport, not only served over 650 delectable breakfasts and lunches but also attracted approximately 40 planes, transforming the day into a celebration of aviation and community support.
As the biggest event to showcase The Bancroft Community Airport to the community, the Annual Fly-In Breakfast and Barbecue exceeded expectations. Guests were treated to a mouth-watering breakfast featuring handmade pancakes, local maple syrup, sausages, and oatmeal, complimented by a choice of coffee, tea, or juice. The scrumptious lunch included grilled hamburgers and sausages with an array of toppings, accompanied by refreshing beverages.
Adding to the event's allure were the captivating scenic sightseeing flights provided by Near North Aviation, offering participants an unparalleled aerial experience. The vibrant atmosphere was further enhanced by live music from Sterling Stead, whose melodies kept attendees on their feet, dancing to the rhythm. Car enthusiasts were delighted by the antique car display presented by members of the Bancroft Cruisers, showcasing classic vehicles of yesteryears. Young future firefighters had the opportunity to explore the Bancroft Fire Department trucks, courtesy of the department's dedicated members.
The Bancroft Community Airport plays a significant role in the region featuring a helipad for local hospitals and emergency services, a landing area for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, as well as Ornge Air and emergency services planes and helicopters.. During severe power outages, the airport also acts as a staging area for Hydro One to provide assistance in serving hard-to-reach areas. It has also served for many generations as a training ground for new pilots. The funds raised through the breakfast event will contribute to the airport's maintenance and support the volunteers in upholding these essential services within the community.
Lynn Davis, President of The Bancroft Flying Club would like to express his sincere appreciation to the directors, members, family and friends, for their many hours of volunteer time for the event. And also a huge thank you to the community for their continued support and participation in making the Annual Fly-In Breakfast and Barbecue an outstanding success. Together, we ensure the Bancroft Community Airport remains a vital asset for the region.
